1 . Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
No concise statement of the political philosophy of Confucius has come down to us, but it is possible to reconstruct its main outlines . Clearly, he believed that government should be aimed at bringing about the welfare and happiness of the whole people . This, he thought, could be done only when the government was administered by the most capable men in the country . Such capability has nothing to do with birth, or death, or position, but solely a matter of character and knowledge . These are produced by proper education . Education should therefore be widely diffused so that the most talented men in the whole population might be prepared for the business of the government . And the administration of the government should be handed over to such men, without regard to their origin .

पुराने जमाने में यातायात के साधन नहीं थे। लोग पैदल चलते थे। उसके बाद वे बैलगाड़ी में यात्रा करने लगे। वे ऊँट गाड़ी में भी यात्रा करते थे। कुछ समय बाद वे घोड़े पर सवारी करने लगे । आजकल जीवन बहुत तेज हो गया है। हम कारों, बसों और रेलगाड़ियों में यात्रा करते हैं। अब हवाई जहाज का युग है। हवाई जहाज के द्वारा हम एक देश से दूसरे देश बहुत कम समय में पहुँच जाते हैं।
